Spotlight: The Roaring Lens of Von Gasphalt – A Photographer's Journey on Two Wheels

Today, we’re diving into the world of French transplant-turned New York resident Von Gasphalt, who combines his passion for motorcycles with the art of photography. Gasphalt's journey with motorcycles began when he moved to the United States eight years ago. He found himself in Dallas, embracing the American biker culture and learning to ride in the Lone Star State terrain. He obtained his license in 2014 and hasn’t looked back since.

Gasphalt obtained a 2016 HD Low Rider S in 2019. Since then he has clocked in an impressive 70,000 miles, riding across all lower 48 states. While his bike was faced mechanical issues in 2022, it still stands as a testament to his love for long rides and enduring spirit.

Gasphalt’s Low Rider perfectly blends style and function. He has equipped it with a range of aftermarket parts to enhance its performance and comfort. His setup includes a D&D Bobcat 2:1 exhaust, S&S Stealth air cleaner, Feuling 574 cam chest, and UltraCool oil cooler, among others. Notably, the bike boasts a Saddlemen step-up seat by Born Scum, Lyndall Brakes components, Memphis Shades Road Warrior fairing, and handguards. Additionally, Gasphalt incorporated an entire array of upgrades from Moons MC, Rogue Riders, Pro One, Bikers Choice, Fox, Legend, Big Bear, Sputhe, IMZZ Elite, and Flo Motorsports.

Gasphalt's bike delivers the necessary power for long rides and is extremely durable in heavy New York City traffic. The D&D exhaust, S&S air cleaner, and Feuling cam chest provide the bike with the utmost power— while simultaneously fueling Gasphalt's adventurous spirit.

This motorcycle customization story is one of breakdowns and upgrades completed by various hands across America. From GhettoChoppers in L.A. to O'Tooles Harley Davidson in New York, shopworkers and shopkeepers everywhere helped give this Dyna new life.

The bike’s aesthetics are the brainchild of Ronnie from @weightsandpaint. Gasphalt wanted to incorporate his background as a Black Metal musician into his bike's appearance, so he worked with Ronnie to create a stunning black and gold theme.

Gasphalt's build process was never about creating a showpiece; it was about making a reliable machine for long-distance rides. He adopted a gradual approach, putting practicality before appearances.

A breakdown-turned-learning experience occured during a coast-to-coast ride in which Gasphalt was forced to use an iPhone cable to shift gears. Moments like this led to crucial upgrades and improvements.

Having ridden over 40 different Harleys, Gasphalt feels very much at home on his custom Low Rider S. Despite the quirks and breakdowns, this is one Dyna he can’t imagine not riding.

Gasphalt got into motorcycle photography with smartphone pictures, capturing his rides and companions. He upped his game in 2018 by getting a proper camera and learning photography basics. His work reflects his journey and the rider spirit. His work is available for viewing at www.vongasphalt.com/shop .

Gasphalt has transitioned from enduring the elements to embracing them with the right gear. His arsenal includes Gerbing heated gloves, a hotwired heated jacket liner, base layers, and chaps for the colder rides.

Gasphalt’s customization story is one of passion, resilience and the relentless pursuit of riding pleasure. He has evolved from a novice rider to a seasoned adventurer with a growing expertise in photography. Gasphalt has established himself as a unique figure in the motorcycle community, and we at Deadbeat Customs are inspired by his journey.

Thanks for riding along with us on this journey into the world of Von Gasphalt — a rider, a photographer, and a storyteller on two wheels. Keep riding, keep exploring and most importantly, keep capturing those unforgettable moments on the road.
